Workplace Culture Course

Thinka’s ‘Empower Culture’ Workshop

What is culture exactly? Some businesses take the idea of culture for granted, believing it evolves on its own at the mercy of the team. While the team plays a big part in how the workplace feels, we must be intentional about culture and embedding the business values. Culture is more than ping-pong tables, it’s about establishing behaviours that facilitate high performance, accountability and consistency.

What you’ll explore

  • What workplace culture is and isn’t
  • Intentional culture: setting the standard
  • The link between values and behaviour
  • Environments for positive cultures
  • Ways to enhance or transform culture

What you’ll apply

  • An ability to role model the culture
  • Discussions that reinforce values and behaviour
  • Tough conversations when culture is compromised
  • Strategies to set the ‘culture climate’
  • Skills to improve a dysfunctional culture
Workshop Purpose

This workshop supports organisations to build positive workplace culture by aligning values with behaviours, so that leaders and teams are clear on expectations. This workshop supports a senior leadership team to set up a company culture framework in line with the organisation’s purpose, mission, vision and values. A focus on positive organisational culture and developing healthy relationships fosters psychological safety and a more inclusive environment.

Working with organisations in Melbourne, Sydney and across Australia, we know that organisational life is changing in these ways:

  1. Psychosocial hazards: With laws changing, organisations need to focus on better protecting their employees from psychosocial hazards to improve work-life. Leaders with these skills will become increasingly desirable, as healthy psychosocial factors promote greater well-being, employee engagement, and increased job satisfaction in teams.
  2. Mental health: 1 in 5 Australians are currently experiencing a mental health issue. By setting expected values and behaviours in place, organisations can help employees support each other to improve mental health outcomes. With strong workplace culture, employees develop greater awareness of their own behaviours and the behaviours of others, to build more constructive relationships.
  3. Flatter hierarchies: More and more, organisations are becoming flatter with employees having more responsibility and autonomy. Leaders need to be able to build a workplace culture that allows for different people to feel a sense of belonging, so they work better together and achieve outcomes.
  4. Rise of ‘human skills’: Organisations are now understanding the importance of developing human skills and how valuable these skills are. Development opportunities are often a combination of hard and soft skills, so that people are growing both technical competency and human skills capability. This helps to action key values and behaviours that drive company culture forward.
  5. Purpose-led business: Employees are seeking organisations that are committed to purpose and interested in cultivating good company culture, teamwork and professional development opportunities. With purpose and a strong commitment to health and wellbeing, organisations have a significant competitive advantage and a more compelling EVP for attraction, retention and engagement.

Overall, these challenges present a strong case for how important it is to develop a healthy workplace culture.

Workshop Benefits

With the help of this ‘Empower Culture’ workshop, organisations will explore values and behaviours and build capability in areas like:

  1. Trust-building: When organisations welcome different perspectives, it goes a long way to signalling trust and connection. This paves the way for long-lasting relationships that are mutually beneficial. Organisations that have strong core values and aligned behaviours, help to build trust quicker for better relationships and results.
  2. Collaboration: Organisations who can appreciate different communication styles among stakeholders are better able to foster a collaborative work environment. Leaders who set up inclusive environments and psychological safety make space for others to contribute, thereby influencing workplace culture in positive ways.
  3. Empathy: When organisations have a workplace culture that supports empathy – relating to other people’s experiences and the emotions they are feeling – it gives leaders more insight into their people. When this happens, there is a better opportunity for connection and team building, and this means they can support each other to achieve outcomes.
  4. Relationship management: Organisations who place a focus on maintaining healthy relationships for better outcomes, improve workplace culture. Organisations who apply an inclusive lens to interactions, build longer-lasting connections. This also has a positive effect on team member mental health and psychological safety.
  5. Decision making: Organisations make well-considered decisions with confidence when they have built a strong company culture with capable leadership. Organisations can build this capability by challenging old views, researching new ways of doing things, and by setting a well-considered action plan in place.

By upskilling and investing in culture-building initiatives, organisations can influence work culture in positive ways for improved results and better performance.

Thinka believes that every learner needs to walk away being able to do something differently once they’ve engaged in a learning solution. The real power is in every individual applying their learning. Our behaviour-based methods, supported by the latest research, are key to making the steps for change relevant and realistic.

Thinka supports with methods like storytelling, experiential activities or rich questioning, but ultimately, we know the integration between solution and real world is the most crucial part of the learning experience. That is why we look for ways to ‘build a bridge’ between the solution we provide and what happens back out on the job.

Whether it’s an application template, a set of strategies, some tips or a ‘how to’ model – we work hard to provide every learner with not just information but the tools they need to make a real difference.
